Tocata Português

Practice piano with the sheet music you choose

Tocata is a piano practice app that runs in the browser. Open a MusicXML or MIDI file and play along: notes fall onto the keyboard or move across the staff, you practice one hand at a time, loop the hard passage, slow it down and let the music wait for the right note. Everything runs on your device, and the file never leaves it.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tocata?

A piano practice app that runs in the browser. Open your own sheet music as MusicXML or MIDI, watch the notes fall onto the keyboard or follow them on the staff, and play along. Free to start, no account, nothing to install.

How do I open my sheet music?

Use a MusicXML (.mxl, .musicxml) or MIDI file from any notation editor, such as MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale, Dorico or Flat, and tap Open sheet music. The file stays on your device: nothing is uploaded.

Does it work on phones and iPhone?

Yes. It runs in Chrome, Safari and Edge on phones, tablets, computers and TVs. On iPhone, Tocata listens to your piano through the microphone, because Safari has no Web MIDI.

Do I need a MIDI keyboard?

No. You can play with a MIDI keyboard (Chrome and Edge), with an acoustic or digital piano through the microphone, or with the computer keyboard.

What is wait mode?

The music stops at every note until you play the right one. It is the way to practice slowly, one hand at a time, looping the hard passage.

How much does it cost?

Free includes the catalog, two scores of your own, falling notes and 15-second videos. Tocata Pro is R$ 14.90 per month with a 7-day free trial, or R$ 99 per year via Pix, and unlocks the staff view, wait mode, microphone and MIDI input, unlimited scores and full-length video.

How do I make a video for TikTok, Reels or Shorts?

Export video renders a vertical 1080×1920 MP4 with sound, from the score or from the take you recorded, right in the browser.

How is it different from Flowkey, Simply Piano or Synthesia?

Flowkey and Simply Piano have closed catalogs and cannot open your own sheet music. Synthesia opens MIDI and MusicXML, but it is a paid desktop program, does not export video and has had no update since 2022. Tocata opens your score, grades your practice and exports vertical video, all in the browser, free to start.

Getting a MusicXML file

Any notation editor exports it: MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale, Dorico, Flat, Noteflight. Sheet music sites such as musescore.com offer it for download. From MuseScore to Tocata shows the free option step by step.
